Ben Tasevski served in Malawi from 2002 - 2003. He worked in field offices as a Water and Sanitation Officer. Ben writes: It has been over twenty years since I have worked in Malawi. Over that time, much has changed in this world, yet the hope Emmanuel International delivers has not.
To describe my time in Malawi, I must travel back in time. Back to 2003. To when text messages on mobile phones were typed using a number pad and were not ‘a thing’ in Canada. To when the internet was dialup and slow. To when Facebook and Google Maps were just starting to gain traction in our daily lives.
This was also when Africa was in the clutches of the AIDS pandemic. Malawi was faced with back-to-back years of food insecurity. My experience in Malawi changed me. I have never worked with such a passionate, talented, and dedicated staff. I left a different person with a much larger “family” and a better understanding of the world and my place as a global citizen.”
