Psalm 139:8-10 "If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, If I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."
From Julia Cornish Trotter: How has your time with EI impacted or influenced your life? Wow. That's a big question. My internship was over 20 years ago now, and much has happened since. But I can truly say that the memories and lessons I learned from my internship in Malawi have remained close to my heart. The cross-cultural and ministry experience I gained during my time with EI were foundational in preparing me for later work with Africa Inland Mission and the Canadian Christian Relief and Development Association (now Kentro). And I built relationships that remain to this day. Is there a particular memory you would like to share? I remember the dear lady, Mai Maria, who did house-keeping for me and the two other Canadian girls I was living with. On my request, she taught me how to pluck and prepare a freshly-killed chicken. After the fun of this novel experience, I was duly humbled when she asked if I was going to use the feet and neck of the bird, which I had not planned to do. Learning that, she asked if she might take them home to make soup for her grandchildren. Since then, I have made a habit of making chicken stock from every leftover carcass when I'm cooking chicken, desiring not to waste any of the goodness others might relish while I take luxury for granted. Julia worked in Malawi from 2003-2004 as a CIDA Intern, doing Youth/HIVAIDS work.
