Define ‘Short Term’! June 5, 2025

Romans 12: 5  “So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”

One of the great delights in Emmanuel International is the opportunity for short-term mission trips.  ‘Short-term’ is sometimes hard to define.  Is a person wanting to go for a year?  Or three months?  Perhaps 1-2 weeks?  There is room for every participant, no matter how long the term of service.  Any one of EI’s 7 Affiliate country offices is willing to welcome one or more people who would like to visit, to observe the work on the ground, to participate in this work.

The trips are usually 2 to 3 weeks, sometimes even just a week.  Often the distance and cost of reaching the destination will determine the length of stay.  Opportunities include a mix of practical work and spiritual outreach.  Some teams have gone to host kids’ Bible programs.  Others have gone to preach or teach in a conference.  Very often the team will be involved in building, painting, digging gardens, teaching a sewing class, to name just a few.

More important than the tasks are the relationships, the kindnesses, the experiences of being with people from another country.  A mission trip provides a unique opportunity to experience how God is working in a very different part of the world.  When one goes with an open heart to the people being ‘served,’ generally it is the heart of the ‘servant’, your heart, that is most touched by this investment of your time.

What is your talent, your interest?  There is an opportunity for you!
